8th Annual Best of the Best Rodeo

The City of Gallup is excited to announce the eighth annual 2023 Best of the Best High School Timed Event Rodeo will be taking place Wednesday, June 21 through Saturday, June 24 at the Red Rock Park Arena, 825 Outlaw Road.

Best of the Best is a High Stakes Timed Event High School Rodeo open to all sixth through 12th grade students currently enrolled in the 2022/2023 school year.

“I totaled it up, and it was close to $12,000 for less than a week,” Mayce Marek, 2019 All Around Cowgirl and Wharton Junior College student, said of her prize winnings. “It’s the absolute best youth rodeo there is; there’s nothing that compares to it.”

Events include Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Break Away for girls; with Steer Wrestling and Tie Down Roping for the boys. This year there are two contestant Team Ropings; the traditional open and a new 9.5 contestant roping. Both ropings are open to boys and girls. Entry fee for all events is $250. Payback is 80 percent with $3,000 added. Every event is two full rounds with the top 12 being brought back to the short go.

Prizes include custom tooled leather iPad covers and iPads to all event winners with H4 custom saddles awarded to the All-Around Cowboy and Cowgirl.

Jackpots will kick off Tuesday afternoon with a High Stakes Team roping and Break Away roping.

Wednesday through Friday nights will feature Team Roping and Break Away Jackpots right after the night Rodeo performances.

Tie Down roping and 9.5 Team roping Jackpots will be offered Thursday afternoon.
