Balloon Rally
The first weekend of December brings color and excitement to the red sandstone bluffs and canyons of Gallup, New Mexico as 200 balloons from around the world take flight from this spectacular setting. Spectators of all ages will enjoy the incredible sights and soon understand why this is a balloonist’s paradise.
A Hot Air Balloon Celebration
The Red Rock Balloon Rally, one of the largest balloon rallies in North America, has been held annually since 1981. It is the second largest balloon event in the United States. Balloons of all shape and colors drift through beautiful canyons and over formations carved by wind and rain thousands of years ago. Spectators have the opportunity to see these colorful balloons up close and can even volunteer to be a member of a crew.
Visitors can spread out and hike around Red Rock Park for the perfect view of the hot air balloons. During the celebrations enjoy food from local vendors and purchase Native American art. Stop at the bonfire to warm up and watch social dances by Native American performers. There is no admission charge, only a small parking fee.
