Gallup is rich with history and culture and surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Whether you’re in town for only a day or a long weekend, these itineraries offer plenty of things to do to give you a true Gallup experience.

Single Day Itinerary

Wake up and head to Gallup Coffee Company for a cup of locally roasted coffee. Then, hike the Church Rock Trail in Red Rock Park for unforgettable views of the surrounding landscape. Head over to Gallup Cultural Center and Rex Museum for some local history and stop for lunch at Angela’s Cafe located inside the cultural center. After lunch, walk around the Veterans Memorial Pillars and visit the Veteran’s Exhibit.

No trip to Gallup would be complete without a tour of Route 66 roadside attractions and neon signs. While on the Mother Road be sure to stop at the many Native American trading posts and shop Native arts. Have dinner at one of these amazing local restaurants then end your day with a stay at El Rancho Hotel.

Native American Culture & History

Explore Zuni Pueblo and go on a wide variety of art and culture, archaeology, and history tours. Spend a day visiting the many national monuments, parks, and historical sites within the Navajo Nation. Head to Chaco Canyon and Manuelito Archaeological Complex to view ancient pueblos and uncover their history.

Art in Gallup

Art can be found all over Gallup. A great example of this is McKinley County Courthouse, where artworks created with the New Deal can be found. Go for a stroll through We the People Park or join a Downtown Mural Walking Tour to enjoy even more artworks.

If you’re in town on a Saturday be sure to check out the Gallup Flea Market which brings local art, goods, and delicious food to Gallup. For even more art and culture head to the ArtsCrawl on the second Saturday of the month for art demos, live music, and more.

Outdoor Adventure

Round out your Gallup trip with some time spent outdoors. Try rock climbing at Mentmore or go for a bike ride on the High Desert Trail System. Explore the town of Ramah and hike the Ramah Mormon Pioneer Trail or take a hike and camp along the Zuni Mountain Trail System. Camping is also available at El Morro National Monument for those looking to spend several nights outdoors.
